Hello world. This has been a rough week with whats been going on involving police brutality and the BLM (Black Lives Matter) movement on top of COVID and other stresses happening in life. I personally have my own mental health battles to fight, all of this stimulation has gotten overwhelming, and I know I don’t feel alone on that. Mental health has become a real concern as it’s changed with the introduction of the internet, and Dr. K is a psychiatrist who has been advocating for more focus on mental health for gamers on his website, Youtube, and Twitch channels.
He recently did a psychiatry session with five where they spoke about mental health, self identity, and what the BLM movement means to them on a personal level. This video does include the whole session, and one of the speaker runs into technical difficulties, but I feel like listening to these five guys talk about what it felt like growing up black is very powerful and insightful on another layer of what has been going on as of late.
We all struggle with mental health in one way or another. Some are capable of managing their mental health on their own, but others would need guidance from somebody like Dr. K. Mental health is a daily struggle for some of us, and there will be days where you feel like you’ve taken a few steps back, and that’s okay. We all progress at our own pace that can’t be compared to others, and we shouldn’t feel guilty about the amount of progress that has been made. You can’t force a broken bone to heal faster, and you can’t will your brain to feel better as well. Stay safe, stay sane, and stay creative.
