Ray here, and I know Cecilio has been talking to you all about video editing workflows, but not everybody can afford to subscribe to the Adobe Creative Cloud so here is a list of five free NLE programs everybody can use for video editing! Please note that all of Cecilio’s tips on editing etiquette are still relevant with these programs, and all of these programs are compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux.
I would personally like to add Hitfilm Express as a personal suggestion to this list. It is mostly free, but it comes with several add-ons to really customize and bring out what you need from an NLE for a smaller price rather than fronting the full price before trying out the program. I have recommended this program to other users who don’t work in the film industry but wanted something with more control than iMovie. Plus, the team behind Hitfilm has created several tutorials on how to use their software to support their user base.
