From a Small Town to a Big Canvas
Growing up in Thunder Bay, I was the black sheep in an otherwise baseball family. I always knew Thunder Bay wasn’t the place for me. In Fall of 2018, with the support of my girlfriend and my family, I moved to Toronto to pursue my dream of making art at Centennial College in the Fine Arts Program. Being in Toronto has helped me to start to understand and accept my mental health through my art. For the past year and a half, I have been working on a body of work that displays my inner self-journey of connecting with my feelings.
Statement
Growing up I was told that my life was perfect. My inner emotions and feelings weren’t justified. I felt as if I had no reason to be sad or nothing to be anxious about. Now as an adult I have started to realize that I don’t need to validate to anyone why I feel how I do and am starting to accept these emotions as part of who I am. These images explore my inner journey of connecting with myself.
Biography
Noah Tuomisto has always been captivated by drawing. Spending more time in class doodling than paying attention, he was able to coast through his childhood in Thunder Bay. With limited knowledge outside of art, Tuomisto is pursuing his one and only “talent” in his second year at Centennial Colleges Fine Arts Studio program.
